Yusuke was a regular deliquent. He played hooky, drank, gambled, you name it. But one day all that changed, he did something unexpected, he saved a little boy from getting hit by a speeding car; and in turn ended his life. But because he was not suppose to die and his deed was noble Koenma revived him. But all things come with a catch; Yusuke was made the new Spirit Detective. With his weapon, the Spirit Gun, he protects the world from demons.

Yusuke is a joker, no matter the situation he is always saying something funny. Through when it comes to protecting someone he cares for he can be very serious. He is an excellent fighter and a true friend, he'll do anything for them.

Kazuma Kuwabara

Kuwabara used to be Yusuke's archerival, but now they are the best of friends, though they fight and argue. He has a very strong six-sense and is an powerful fighter. His greatest weapon is his Spirit Sword. Kuwabara also has another power, the power to cut through dimensions. He has a soft spot for kittens and is hopelessly in love with Yukina. If only she were to notice him...

Kurama

Kurama is a demon in human form. Though he appears to be a teenager he is actually over 300 years old! He is very intelligent, very kind and soft spoken. Kurama is truely the Legendary Bandit Yoko Kurama. He was a cold, heartless theif, until he became a human where his human mother opened his heart and taught him to love. Kurama first became human 15 years ago. He was injured by a bounty hunter and was forced to flee to the human world. Because he was weak he hid inside an unborn baby and became the child of Shiori Minamino. Now Kurama can once again become Yoko by drinking a special formula or he can take the appearance of Yoko when expossed to a lot of demonic energy. But by the end of the season he vows to never turn into Yoko again.

Hiei Jaganshi

Hiei is a fire apparition. On his forehead is the Jagan eye. He got this eye to watch his sister, Yukina, but he refuses to tell her that they're siblings. Hiei has exellent agility and relies on his sword in battle. His ultramate attack is Dragon of the Darkness Flame. Though this attack leaves him quite weak after used.

Hiei may seem cold and heartless but he really isn't. At first he despised Yusuke and co. but after he got to know them he began to like them. He does care about them though he will never admit it.

Botan

Botan is a perky grim reaper. She is the Guide to the Spirit World. She guides people that have past away to the Spirit World. Yusuke was among the many people she guided and once he was brought back to life she became his assistant. Botan is usually goofy and always smiling. She loves to make a cat impersonation.

Koenma

Koenma is the prince of Spirit world. His father is King Enma (or King Yama), who decides whether mortals go to hell or heaven. Koenma is over 700 years old and still looks like a baby. (He’s in diapers! Lol) He is the one that gave Yusuke the ordeal to come back to life. Through Koenma normally appears to be a toddler when he wants to he can transform into a teenager, but he still keeps his pacifier. There is a power in the pacifier that when removed will cause something to happen, nobody knows what, through.(Well, you find out in the third season.)

Koenma is a little full of himself. He really thinks he’s cool and at times has a cruel sense of humor, which he usually shows to the ogre, George. He relies a lot on Yusuke and so forth puts him into hopeless situations, which Yusuke always seems to over come.

 

SUPPORTING CAST

Keiko Yukimura

Keiko is Yusuke's childhood friend. Keiko is a model student; she's athletic, smart, and pretty. She cares a lot for Yusuke and all her friends. Though she is usually sweet she sometimes can be stubborn and when annoyed can make your cheek really sting. Yusuke knows a lot about this. She is also the care taker of Yusuke's spirit beast, Puu. She cares deeply for Yusuke and constantly worries about him.

Genkai

Genkai is Yusuke’s teacher. She taught him how to use the Spirit Wave, to better his powers, and improve his techniques.

Genkai won the Dark tournament 50 years ago. She wished to never be bothered with the committee again but her apprentice, Yusuke Urameshi had to enter or everyone he know would die. Genkai entered as the fifth member of his team, calling herself the masked fighter. But she was killed by Toguro before the finals of the Dark Tournament. Toguro and Genkai had been on the same team on the previous tournament 50 years ago, supposedly they had been lovers. Toguro had wished to become the strongest demon and to not age, that ended their relationship. Genkai was brought back to life by Koenma once Yusuke and his team had won the tournament.

She is a very strict old woman. She calls Yusuke “dimwit” on a regular basis, but she does care about him. She believes that you shouldn’t run away from time and wants Yusuke to not run away either. When Genkai uses the Spirit Wave she changes back to her youth for awhile.

Shizuru Kuwabara

Shizuru is Kuwabara’s older sister. She cares deeply about her brother, even though she doesn’t always show it. Like her brother Shizuru has a sixth sense, but hers is much stronger. She can she many things normal people can’t see, like Spirit World insects.

Shizuru has a bad habit of smoking. She is an aspiring Beautician.

Yukina

Yukina is Hiei’s sister, but she has no idea of the relation; Hiei feels it is better that she doesn’t know.

Yukina is an ice apparition. When she cries tears of valuable jewels fall from her eyes. She is a very sweet and pretty girl. She loves animals. She also likes humans even though some have been very cruel to her in the past she still sees kindness in some. Kuwabara is in love with her but she doesn’t seem to notice.
